Bitterly disappointed by PS3's lack of backward compatibility I came so close to buying the PS3 40GB Spiderman movie package the other day. That of course is before I did my homework and discovered the PS3 40GB is not backward compatable. While this might not be a big deal to some, for people like me who have been on the Playstation bandwagon for many years and have built up big libraries of PS and PS2 games, (I have over 150 games!) backward compatibility is crucial. To my understanding the 20,60, and 80 GB models are backward compatible, but ALL of these models have been discontinued. The only way to buy one of these models is through a merchant at a jacked up price of $700 or more for a new one. Thanks, but no thanks. Unless Sony releases another PS3 model that is backward compatible, there is a very good chance I will not be buying one at all. The PS3 and its games are too expensive for me to start a new library from scratch. I hope other playstation customers who feel as I do will tell Sony what you think about this matter.
No game included. We would have preferred a choice of the movie that was included. No one in our home was interested in Spiderman. Instead, Planet Earth would have been a better choice to show off the quality of the unit. This unit was purchased for the 1080p, blu-ray HD quality; rather than for gaming experiences. However, when we find an interactive program, the games will begin. Otherwise, a superior unit.
Playstation 3 I bought this Playstation 3 as a Christmas present for my parents, mostly for the bluray capabilities. The machine is wonderful and *fast.* It has a little heat problem, after being on for the length of a movie it is very warm to the touch. Somewhat scared my mother, but since then she has kept it standing upright rather than laying down. That seems to have enough heat dissipation to keep it cool for two hours or so, but after that you run into the same problem again. The internet browser has a few bugs, but it is really nice to have in the living room. We haven't bought any games for the machine yet, and probably wont until Metal Gear Solid 4 comes out. My parents do not play video games, and I do not live with them anymore so it is pretty much just a bluray player. And a very good one.
PS3 puts Xbox 360 to bed...here is why Having a PS3 and an Xbox 360 I have to say that my PS3 continues to AMAZE ME. Here is why...
1) PS3 has ----- No subscription fees!!!!!!!!!!! Why anyone would pay for an XBOX and then subscription fees when you can get the same games for PS3 for FREE is just crazy!
2)Compatible as a PC/Media Server (with super cool visuals). You can even put an OS on it. The web cam conferencing also is super cool with a 1 second delay. Unheard of. I can't even get that on my desktop pc!
3)Movie quality is well ace!
Now I have heard some rumors that the 40GB runs cooler than the ones with more GB.
The gaming quality is the same on both consoles, but the PS3 console has changed me forever! Xbox 360...ebay.. soon.
Sure Bill Gates can run his home off of an Xbox 360...but all you need is a little creativity and a Philips Pronto and voila..
